Mother’s Day is a day to celebrate the incredible women who have nurtured, cared for, and supported us. It’s a day to reflect on the cherished memories and moments that make them so special. As I pay tribute to my mother on this occasion, I am filled with gratitude and admiration for her.
Growing up, my mother played many roles, from family counselor to nurse, cleaning lady to entertainment director, entrepreneur to nanny. Despite the challenges she faced as a stay-at-home mom, my mother was always creative, innovative, and actively involved in our upbringing.
She had a knack for making everything special. From the best birthday parties to Christmas celebrations and weekly family dinners, she made sure that our family stayed grounded in love and belonging. She could whip up nutritious meals every night and keep our home clean and organized, all while fixing anything that needed repairing.
My mother is also a stunning woman. She had Elizabeth Taylor’s beauty when she was young and is often compared to Meryl Streep today. I remember watching her get ready for evenings out with my dad, admiring her as she combed her beautiful black hair with an antique brush on her dressing table. I
wondered if I could grow up to be just like her.
There was a book of poetry titled “Apples of Gold” edited by Jo Petty that my mom kept on her nightstand. One of my favorite poems from the book is “The Test of Life” by Eliza M. Hickok. The poem reminds us that the test of life is not meant to break us but to make us. It works towards a purpose, increases our worth and power, and develops us into better, stronger, and more loving people. My mother exemplifies these qualities, having been tried and tested, she is strong, resilient, and a great role model.
As I reflect upon my life, I realize the purpose that my mother tended to overlook in herself. She is a great mother, beloved grandmother, and my best friend. To me, she is pure gold. She has always been there for me, offering her love, guidance, and unwavering support. On this Mother’s Day, I want to thank her for
all that she has done for me and our family.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! You are a remarkable woman who is truly a bright light in this world. I am so lucky to have you as my mother and friend.
